FEASTING!!!

FEASTING!

As I mentioned in my previous post, I have a new goal: I want to GET FAT. I want to FEAST on God’s Word and have my soul be satisfied with the Bread of Life and Him alone.

In the summer of 2018, I found myself severely depressed, craving time with other Christian women, desiring to make meaningful connections in my life. That’s how WOW was started. This group of women in my community met faithfully during the school year, each Wednesday, as we encouraged each other, cried together, prayed over each other, laughed a lot, and shared the ups and downs of life together.

Throughout the summer months, I realized how much I loved this group. I began to understand how necessary the weekly refreshment and accountability provided by these ladies had become in my life. And I can’t wait to start it again!! I know our group will be a little different because we are different than a year ago. But I also know we all have the desire to encourage other women and point them to Jesus.

Over the summer of 2019, God has laid something different on my heart. Through various avenues, He showed me how malnourished my spiritual life is. Even though I’m “eating” His Word every day by reading with my MIL and going through various studies, I’m not being truly nourished by my daily devotions. This MUST change. And the chances are, I’m not the only one who feels this way. I’m STARVING for God’s Word and ready to FEAST on the BREAD OF LIFE!

So now, not only do I feel led to host a group of women from the community on Wednesday mornings, I also feel inspired (“called” if you will) to lead the women at my church. If you know ANYTHING about my church, you will know that MOST of the other women in my church are more advanced in years than I am…by a lot of years. But one thing I know about God and the Bible is that they don’t change and are applicable in ALL stages of life.

This (school) year, I’m going to start a Bible study for the women of my church. What’s going to be unique about this study is that we are NOT going to use a curriculum. We are simply going to study THE BIBLE. While the weekly study meetings are being held at my house, we are ALL going to be leaders. Our assignment is this: read one chapter of the Bible every day for 7 days and then come together to discuss it. For example, we are going to start with the book of James. So the first week, we will all read chapter 1 of James each day and then on Thursday we will share what we have learned and how we can apply it to our lives. While I will be in charge of guiding the discussion, it will really be led by the women who participate.

I’m so excited to dive in to God’s Word with these women because I know that we will all read it from a different perspective and that God will speak to each of individually. But I also know that we can all learn from each other and grow together in Christ as we study His Word together.

There are many benefits to studying the Bible like this, the most obvious one is learning more about God. But it’s also refreshing to study HIS Word and not what other people say about His Word. It’s great to know that everyone already has a copy of the Book and we won’t have any added expenses. This is a great way to get into the habit of reading His Word daily, but by rereading passages each day, it helps to truly DEEPEN our knowledge and understanding instead of just glossing over the words. And if people have to miss a week, it’s easy to catch up!

When I presented the idea of a Bible study to the pastor and then women in my church, I was SHOCKED by the overwhelmingly positive response!  I was FLOORED by the enthusiasm for “simply” reading the Bible. I was DEVASTATED by the responses of people who had been wanting this for years but never said anything or did anything about it. Most of all, I’m ENCOURAGED that God can use me to minister to women much wiser than myself. Of course, I feel COMPLETELY INADEQUATE as I prepare for this study, but am ECSTATIC to see what God is going to do through it.

I’m no one special. I have no formal Bible training. But I have a heart that is open and willing to learn, a Bible to guide me, and the Holy Spirit to work in me and through me.

Are you feeling malnourished? Are you starving for THE TRUTH from the BREAD OF LIFE? Perhaps God is calling you to lead a group like this in your church or community. Don’t discount what God can do. And when He calls you, He equips you.

Let’s GET FAT and FEAST on His Word!!
