The Struggle Is Real, But So Is God

~ A Book Review

We ALL have struggles in life…real struggles. If you know me personally or have followed my blog for any length of time, you know that I have my share of struggles as well (miscarriage , depression, frustration , health, resting, and many more.

But just as my struggles and yours are VERY real, as Christians we have a God who is also VERY real. We have a God who knows what it’s like to be human and have human struggles.

TSIR 1It’s often through the struggles of life that we can grow the closest to God. I know that this has been very true in my life. But sometimes, it can be difficult to know how to grow closer to God in the midst of our struggles.

In her Bible Study, The Struggle Is Real, But So Is God, Misty Phillip takes us on a six-week journey to discover how we are overcomers in Christ. Each week’s study is broken down in to five days in order for you to firmly grasp each concept. Through this study, Misty equips you with wisdom from the Scriptures to help you grow spiritually by claiming God’s promises as your own by diving deeply into Scripture in each and every lesson.

Each week is a different topic that helps us to adequately comprehend how God has TSIR 2helped us to overcome our struggles. In week one, she explores what it means to overcome. Week two digs deep into what our problem truly is and why we experience struggles in life. In week three, Misty walks us through people in the Old Testament who overcame tremendous struggles and what we can learn from them. In week four, Jesus is shown as the answer to our struggles as the ultimate overcomer. During week five, we learn how to count it all joy with believers from the New Testament. And finally, in week six, we learn about the reward for the faithful by studying Revelation.

Throughout each day’s study, Misty provides Biblical and historical background to the passages she uses and provides space for personal reflection and application as you dig deeper in God’s Word. One thing I really enjoyed was that Misty did NOT write out each Scripture passage in the study, which allowed me to find them in MY Bible and read more than the individual verse to gain the context which made it more easily comprehensible and applicable. There is also a prayer prompt for each daily study to help you develop your prayer life at a deeper level.

TSIR 3One of my favorite parts of each day’s study was the “declarations” that Misty included. These statements helped to make the study personal as she took Scripture and made it more applicable and easier to pray aloud.

In case you think this study is just looking up Scripture, Misty also includes daily questions to ponder as you strive to overcome the struggles in your own life.

I went through this study by myself, but it is a WONDERFUL tool to use for any small group study. While the participants in the group may not be experiencing the same struggles in life, EVERYONE has struggles and God’s Word is applicable in EVERY situation.

If you’re looking for an in-depth, no-nonsense study of God’s Word to help you overcome the struggles in your life, I highly recommend this study.
