Offertory – October 21, 2018

Morning Service – For the morning service, I will be playing “Be Thou My Vision” which is a traditional Irish hymn and melody (this arrangement by Carol Tornquist © 2003 Word Music, LLC). This arrangement is to be played “gently” which is simple to do because of the flowing accompaniment while the melody jumps between the bass and treble cleft. This arrangement reminds me that wherever life takes me, whether it’s high or low times in my life, if I keep my eyes set on Jesus, everything comes into focus.

Here are the lyrics:

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art;
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tow’r:
Raise Thou me heav’nward, O Pow’r of my pow’r.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heav’n’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

Evening Service – For the evening service, I have chosen “I’m So Glad, Jesus Lifted Me” by Camp Kirkland (also “traditional”) (© 1997 Integrity’s Hosanna! Music and Word Music, LLC, #568 in the Baptist Hymnal © 2008 LifeWay Worship). I chose this song because in our culture today, there is pressure to “pick yourself up by your bootstraps”…to rely on yourself to overcome hardships. But the truth is, it is ONLY by JESUS that we can overcome ANYTHING this world throws at us. And we need to PRAISE Him for it!  It’s nothing we can do on our own…GLORY, HALLELUJAH!  JESUS LIFTED ME!!

Here are the lyrics:

I’m so glad Jesus lifted me.
I’m so glad Jesus lifted me.
I’m so glad Jesus lifted me,
Singing glory, hallelujah! Jesus lifted me.

I was sinking down; Jesus lifted me.
I was sinking down; Jesus lifted me.
I was sinking down; Jesus lifted me.
Singing glory, hallelujah! Jesus lifted me.

Satan had me bound; Jesus lifted me.
Satan had me bound; Jesus lifted me.
Satan had me bound; Jesus lifted me,
Singing glory, hallelujah! Jesus lifted me.

I’m so glad Jesus lifted me.
I’m so glad Jesus lifted me.
I’m so glad Jesus lifted me,
Singing glory, hallelujah! Jesus lifted me.
