Offertory – October 14, 2018

Morning Service – For the morning service, I will be playing “I Sing the Mighty Power of God” by Isaac Watts and Gesangbuch der Herzogl (this arrangement by Carol Tornquist © 2003 Word Music, LLC). This arrangement is played boldly and rhythmically. The melody travels back and forth from the treble and the bass, causing you to pay attention to the song. It is played loudly, as if declaring the mighty power of God to everyone who can hear.

Here are the lyrics:

I sing the mighty pow’r of God, that made the mountains rise,
That spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies.
I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day;
The moon shines full at His command, and all the stars obey.

I sing the goodness of the Lord, who filled the earth with food,
Who formed the creatures through the Word, and then pronounced them good.
Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed, where’er I turn my eye,
If I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the sky.

There’s not a plant or flow’r below, but makes Thy glories known,
And clouds arise, and tempests blow, by order from Thy throne;
While all that borrows life from Thee is ever in Thy care;
And everywhere that we can be, Thou, God, art present there.

Evening Service – For the evening service, I have chosen “More Love to Thee, O Christ” by Elizabeth Prentiss and William H Doane (#559 in the Baptist Hymnal © 2008 LifeWay Worship). I chose this song because I truly want to this be my earnest plea. I want to love Christ more. As I go through hardships in life, I’m learning that if  I keep my focus on Him and love Him more, my hardships fade into the background.

Here are the lyrics:

More love to Thee, O Christ, More love to Thee!
Hear Thou the prayer I make On bended knee;
This is my earnest plea: More love, O Christ, to Thee,
More love to Thee, More love to Thee!

Once earthly joy I craved, Sought peace and rest;
Now Thee alone I seek, Give what is best;
This all my prayer shall be: More love, O Christ, to Thee,
More love to Thee, More love to Thee!

Then shall my latest breath Whisper Thy praise;
This be the parting cry My heart shall raise;
This still its prayer shall be: More love, O Christ, to Thee,
More love to Thee, More love to Thee!
