Offertory – September 16, 2018

Morning Service – For the morning service, I will be playing “At the Cross” by Isaac Watts and Ralph E Hudson (this arrangement by Carol Tornquist © 2003 Word Music, LLC). This arrangement is to be played “expressively” and “with freedom”. When we go to cross and see the light of Jesus and begin to live by faith, we should express our new-found freedom to all who cross our paths. It’s only because of the cross and Christ’s sacrifice that we can see about the grace He has given us and be truly happy all day long.

Here are the lyrics:

Alas! and did my Savior bleed
And did my Sovereign die?
Would He devote that sacred head
For sinners such as I?

At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light,
And the burden of my heart rolled away,
It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day!

Thy body slain, sweet Jesus, Thine—
And bathed in its own blood—
While the firm mark of wrath divine,
His Soul in anguish stood. (Chorus)

Was it for crimes that I had done
He groaned upon the tree?
Amazing pity! grace unknown!
And love beyond degree! (Chorus)

Well might the sun in darkness hide
And shut his glories in,
When Christ, the mighty Maker died,
For man the creature’s sin. (Chorus)

Thus might I hide my blushing face
While His dear cross appears,
Dissolve my heart in thankfulness,
And melt my eyes to tears. (Chorus)

But drops of grief can ne’er repay
The debt of love I owe:
Here, Lord, I give my self away
’Tis all that I can do. (Chorus)

Evening Service – For the evening service, I have chosen “Be Exalted, O God” by Brent Chambers (©1977 Scripture in Song/Maranatha! Music, #19 in the Baptist Hymnal © 2008 LifeWay Worship). I chose this song because I love how the lyrics are based on Scripture (Psalm 57:11). It’s a simple song but has a powerful message and bold chorus.

Here are the lyrics:

I will give thanks to Thee, O Lord, among the people.
I will sing praises to Thee among the nations.
For Thy steadfast love is great, is great to the heavens;
And Thy faithfulness,
Thy faithfulness to the clouds.

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
Let Thy glory be over all the earth.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
Let Thy glory be over all the earth.
